Kazan State Medical University

History

Kazan State Medical University possesses one of the most distinguished histories in Russian medical education, with over 200 years of continuous academic and clinical excellence. The institution traces its origins to May 14, 1814, when the medical faculty of the Imperial Kazan University held its first official council meeting. Throughout its long existence, the university has maintained a steadfast commitment to advancing medical science and education throughout Russia and internationally. The institution evolved as an independent entity in 1930 through a decree establishing it as the Kazan State Medical Institute with distinct medical and sanitary-hygienic faculties. The twentieth century witnessed systematic expansion with the establishment of the pediatric faculty in 1932, dental faculty in 1956, pharmaceutical faculty in 1975, and subsequent faculties dedicated to postgraduate education, social work, nursing, and biomedical sciences. Today, Kazan State Medical University ranks as the third oldest medical university in Russia, following only Moscow and St. Petersburg, and has become recognized as one of the country’s top three medical universities. The university continues its legacy of training medical professionals with a current enrollment exceeding 6,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.
