History
Moscow State Diplomacy Institute is one of Russia’s oldest university centers training international experts. Founded October 14, 1944, when the Faculty of International Relations separated from Moscow State University into an independent institute, it began with 200 enrolled students. Beginning in 1946, international students commenced studies, establishing the institution’s global character. Initially, the institute operated three faculties: international relations, economics, and law. In 1958, the Institute of Foreign Trade of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs, established in Leningrad in 1934, merged with the institute, significantly expanding the Faculty of Economics with focus on foreign trade and economic activity specialists. In 1969, the Faculty of International Law and Faculty of International Journalism were established. The institute continued expanding with the Faculty of International Business established in 1991 and Faculty of Political Science in 1998. In 1994, the institute received university status, becoming one of Russia’s leading universities training specialists across 18 fields. The International Management Institute was established to train state and municipal administration experts, while the International Energy Policy and Diplomacy Institute opened in 2000.
