History
Petersburg State Electrotechnical University was founded in 1886 as Europe’s first higher education institution specializing in electrical engineering. The university established itself as a pioneer in engineering education, developing comprehensive programs and research capabilities in electrical sciences and technologies. Throughout its long history, the institution advanced knowledge in radio-electronics, telecommunications, electrical engineering, and related fields. Distinguished faculty members founded scientific schools that prioritized education development and innovation. The university weathered major historical transitions including the Soviet period and post-Soviet transformation while maintaining commitment to engineering excellence. By the late twentieth century, the institution had become one of Russia’s leading technical universities. Continuous adaptation to technological advancement ensured relevance and quality. The university’s 28 educational programs were selected among Russia’s best innovative programs in 2017. Additionally, 46 educational programs received recognition from the European Network for the Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE), demonstrating international quality standards. Today, the institution represents over a century of accumulated expertise in electrical engineering education and research.
