History
Petersburg State Institute of Technology was founded in 1828 as Saint Petersburg Practical Technological Institute, establishing itself as one of Russia’s oldest universities. The institution developed comprehensive expertise in chemistry, chemical technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology, mechanics, information technology, business, and economics. Throughout its nearly 200-year history, the institute evolved into a modern educational and scientific center producing recognized achievements across multiple technical and scientific fields. The institute’s faculty comprises 80 doctors of science and 303 candidates of science. Over the decades, the institution trained more than 68,000 specialists, with more than 110 graduates achieving academy membership. The institute maintains strong scientific traditions emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical application. Saint Petersburg’s position as a major industrial and scientific center supported the institute’s development and relevance. The institution’s longevity reflects sustained commitment to technical excellence, adapting curricula to contemporary industrial needs while preserving academic rigor. Today, the institute represents nearly two centuries of accumulated expertise in chemical technology and advanced materials.
